About Me: Full Bio
Hello, I'm Steven Belanger. I currently work as a security guard for Securitas and a full-time student working to finish my degree in cyber security at DeVry University (Expected graduation date: February, 2022).
I have worked in a variety of fields which has built my "toolbox" of skills to exceptional proportions. You can visit Resume page for a detailed list of skills and credentials.
Outside of my skills, I have an intense passion for learning. There is so much in the world to learn and experience, I feel I'm not living to my full potential if I'm not continuing my education either by taking courses, reading books, blogs or other resources online. I strive to be better than I was the day before. Typically the things I enjoy learning about are IoT (including programming, game design and cyber security or hacking), business (acquisitions, sales and marketing, etc.), self development, and investing (real estate, stocks, commodities, etc.). I simply love learning about different subjects that will make me a better over-all human being.
I do enjoy playing music and I can currently play the guitar and the ukulele as well as some piano. Currently I am learning to play the Erhu (Chinese Violin) and it is proving to be exceptionally difficult because there are not many resources out which teach that instrument.
I participate in some extreme sports like hiking, skiing, and scuba diving and very much enjoy these experiences. I would eventually like to acquire my master diver's license to dive more frequently at my leisure.
I love to travel as well. I've been out of the country a few times and have loved each and every experience. Hopefully, the air lines will be back to allowing international travel after COVID, because I'm ready to see what else the world has in store for me.
Career Stories
Security
My security career began when I started working for ADT as a consultant. I was introduced to different aspects of home and physical security. From door sensors to cameras, I became an expert in all aspects of physical residential and commercial security.
I moved on to working as a security guard for Securitas to improve my understanding of how a full security business operates.
Currently, I am still working for Securitas, but I am going through DeVry University's cyber security program. This will give me the skills necessary to jumpstart Securitas's cyber security division.
Sales & Marketing
Oh, the stories I have about my sales and marketing careers.
The first sales job I had ever taken was with a company called Zortt. I'm unsure if they're still around, but a great story none-the-less. Originally I was hired on as a consultant to discuss different digital business card options that were available to business owners and then was promoted to an advisor. This job gave me the confidence I needed to move on to bigger sales jabs.
After Zortt, I moved onto working with Google as a part of their Waze advertising division. This introduced me more to the cold calling aspect of the sales industry, which is not something I really enjoyed. I liked having that face to face interaction with clients. I also probably would have enjoyed the job more had I believed in what we were selling.
I've had other sales and marketing jobs but these were the more significant ones. At the end of the day, it didn't matter if I enjoyed those jobs or not. What mattered is that I gained tremendous value in regards to sales and marketing education.
